5 Über Hip SoCal Parklets to Chill In Right Now

It's really a shame LA hasn't got on board with these in many mid city neighborhoods! These would be perfect up and down Melrose, La Brea, Beverly, Fairfax, even Hollywood Blvd.

Agreed. L.A. is the city which stories about cars jumping the curb and winding up in the window of regular restaurants happen monthly! This is a bad, bad, bad idea. Squash o rama. Less than a year until they are outlawed because someone dies at one of these.

Everybody finds ill in all they see and do...Poor unhappy people... it would be so serene to sit and have a sandwich next to plants in in the air, with no cooking smells and kitchen sounds... I will search for more of these little spots of heaven... thanks for the push!

there is that cool little strip of street in silverlake (the road is painted green) where there's a park and a basketball hoop - anyone else seen this?

parking by melrose, 3rd street, la brea, etc, is ridiculous as it is, adding these in would just make it worse. combine that with the traffic, no thank you.

The first 3 places are in the city of Long Beach, not LA. You are much more likely to get hit by a bicyclist than a car on 4th St.

Great concept. But, I would prefer if they weren't on high traffic streets. The only thing worse than cooking smells and kitchen sounds is the smell of exhaust and gasoline fumes as well as honking horns. Plus are those park spots licensed to serve booze? I know some restaurants that aren't allowed to serve alcohol on their patio because of city ordinances.

Indeed LA is retarded when it comes to public space. You can't go back in time and you can't do retroactive city planning. This a solution that adds public space and neighborhood identity to a city that needs it badly. Yes you might get hit by a car, just as you may be struck by lightning, but neither are likely and it shouldn't keep you from going outside.

I prefer to revel in the gifts we have been so generously given: Abundant sunshine, beautiful forests, beaches, and nature preserves.
