Open House Obsession: In Sausalito, a Pair of View Houses Worth Seeing This Sunday

Sausalito, just over the Golden Gate Bridge, was a sleepy fishing town until the mid-'30s, when the bridge connected it to San Francisco. It's still lovely, protected from fog by a coastal ridge, and here are two houses open on Sunday.

224 Bulkley Avenue, Sausalito, $1.495M
Ever wonder what's behind those garages lining the winding streets above Sausalito? This classic 4-bed, 2-bath shingled Marin cottage is a perfect example. Probably built before WWII, the listing says it was last remodeled in 1933– meaning the blond wood kitchen was probably up-to-the minute back then. It still looks good. The views over the town and harbor are spectacular, while the house is sheltered among the trees, and it's a quick walk down to the village itself.
Open on Sunday, Aug 26 from 1:00PM to 4:00PM
Ever wonder what's behind those garages lining the winding streets above Sausalito? This classic 4-bed, 2-bath shingled Marin cottage (porch, above) is a perfect example.
Built before WWII, the listing says it was last remodeled in 1933– meaning the blond wood kitchen was probably up-to-the minute back then. It still looks good. The rest of the house retains its original Arts & Crafts atmosphere, with high ceilings and stuccoed walls. From the sunroom, below, the views over the town and harbor are spectacular.

224 Woodward Avenue, Sausalito, $1.29M

We're loving the crisp open-timber remodel of this early '60s cottage (above) set above Bridgeway and Sausalito's working harbor. There's no garage– although it looks like there's room for one– and so the entry is through a gate set into some hedges along the road.

They're calling it a 2-bedroom, but the master bedroom (above) is an open loft with spectacular views, making it the perfect house for a couple with a sailboat nearby. On the market 2 days, it has a great deck and view:

Open on Sunday, Aug 26 from 2:00PM to 4:00PM
