Hot Finds Abound at the New Hammer & Spear Store in LA

The store caters to architects and interior designers, and is home to unique items you won't find anywhere else.

Hammer and Spear has been open less than a month, yet during their grand opening party the checkout line was out the door. Design enthusiasts are going crazy for the small finds co-owners Kristan Cunningham and Scott Jarrell have picked up on road trips, such as Native American spears and a clawfoot tub (which, it turns out, is from a brothel). Everything in Hammer and Spear has a story, and Kristan Cunningham, who is also an interior designer, is happy to walk patrons through the entire store to give some background on each item. Top 10 Favorite Ideas at the 2013 San Francisco Decorator Showcase

It’s that time of year again — the San Francisco Decorator Showcase opens this weekend in an Edwardian manse at the top of Pacific Heights (the iconic Herbst Manor). Built in 1899, the home features 24 spaces decorated by today's hottest local designers. We got a sneak peak of the decked-out abode and put together ten of our favorite ideas from these unique spaces. Be sure to visit the Decorator Showcase April 27 – May 27 at 2800 Pacific Avenue. Designer Crush Q&A: Tom Callaway

Tom Callaway's professional story reads like the plot of a yet-to-be made movie: After working for twenty years as an actor in LA and NY, he took on a project to design a home in LA from the ground up. That initial project was a catalyst for a huge career change, and Tom opened his own design practice Thomas Callaway and Associates in 1989. Since then, Tom has designed over 100 projects. And true to his initial inspiration many of these projects have included conceiving of all aspects of the design - including architecture and landscape. In 1990 Tom created his own furniture line, opened a gallery of art and artifacts cleverly named "Stuff Tom Likes" in 2012, and this year he is designing a new line of textiles and wallpapers!
