Insider Vintage Shopping with Chairish: Los Angeles

We sat down with Chairish's Chief Curator and Co-Founder, Anna Brockway to get the scoop on the best vintage shops and most notable trends currently in Los Angeles.

Where is your favorite area of LA to shop vintage?

Los Angeles has these incredible microclimates of style; it’s not all one thing by any stretch. Venice feels breezy beachy boho with nubby textiles and mixed elements like wood, wicker, and leather all in a light and airy palate. West Hollywood epitomizes high gloss fabulosity with big doses of ’70’s sleek in shiny lacquers, smoked mirror, brass and chrome. Silver Lake is hipster all the way with a mix of lived-in mid-century, handmade artisanal elements and downright retro accents served with a big dollop of wit! Pasadena style feels slightly preppy and gracious and of course, Downtown LA is developing its own aesthetic with an urban look that is both industrial, com- fortable and not too serious.

What have you learned about LA vintage from the key sellers on Chairish?
Fearless optimism. The LA sellers and shops with whom Chairish has partnered, have such an open-minded disposition about design. They appreciate the beauty and purpose in an incredibly wide range of styles and periods. For example, I met with a seller recently who has a collection of Brutalist cabinetry in dark metals. Historically I would perceive this look as too dark for my taste but mixed thoughtfully with his other pieces, they delivered gravitas and sex appeal. I am now the proud owner of more than a few Brutalist pieces!
