Design Destination: The Palladian – The Soul Of Seattle

If you’re headed for Seattle, don’t forget to pack your raincoat or make a reservation at The Palladian, another stellar stop from the Kimpton Hotel Group and remarkable design from NICOLEHOLLIS. The hotel’s recurring whiskey hour, which complements their nightly wine hour and celebrates the city’s justifiably famous brown liquor culture, is one reason to make this your hotel of choice. But it’s just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to reasons to bed down here for the night.

Located in Belltown, the heart of downtown Seattle, the Palladin treats guests to views of the city, the water and the Space Needle through the building’s original arched windows. Their graceful design, an  example of the Italian Renaissance Revival style that swept through this former frontier town in the early 1900’s, give the hotel its name.

Oiginally christened The Calhoun Hotel when it opened in 1910, the 97 room hotel’s edgy masculine style references its history with exposed brick, reclaimed wood, brass, leather and marble finishes. Ample charging docks and free-flowing Wi-Fi plant it firmly in the present.  Crisp white bedding is classic but it’s the hotel’s signature whimsical throw pillows that will catch your attention, graced with portraits of regally clad celebrities like Leonardo DiCaprio, David Bowie, Tom  Selleck and more. That the hotel’s pet-friendly is an added bonus.

Two restaurants, spearheaded by Chef Walter Pisano, offer on-site dining options: Shaker + Spear offers the fresh seafood the city’s famous for while Pennyroyal, a dark old-world style bar, offers a comprehensive cocktail program alongside tasty bites.

Walk or borrow one of the hotel's bikes to see the city’s sights: Pike Place market, the Seattle waterfront and Seattle City Center are alll nearby. Catch a Mariners game at Safeco Field, check out the collections at The Seattle Art Museum, pop into see a band at one of the city’s many venues or head down to the Waterfront to catch a ferry to Bainbridge Island.
