A Glamorous Job: Knoll Home Design Shop Opens on Robertson

Author:

If you’re under the impression that office furniture is an endless sea of grey and stainless steel, think again. With the opening of the Los Angeles branch of Knoll Home Design Shop on Robertson Boulevard in Los Angeles, Knoll, who practically invented the understated modern office, is about to come in and shake up your home. Like the mousy assistant of many an old Hollywood movie, who shakes out her hair and whips off her glasses to reveal her bombshell side, Knoll’s sleek offerings, reinvented for your home, reveal their distinctly glamorous side.

It begins with the exterior. Designed by LA-based Johnson Markee in collaboration with Knoll design director Benjamin Pardo, with interior space by Barbara Reimelt, NinetyNineGroup, the 4,000 square foot space captures the modern spirit of Knoll, focusing on creative lifestyle inspiration for Los Angeles natives and its international audience alike. Located just south of the Pacific Design Center in West Hollywood, it’s the brand’s second direct-to-consumer retail location, following the success of its midtown New York City store. A polished gray terrazzo exterior and curved arches complements an interior inspired by Yves Vidal’s Tangier York Castle. With its gold tone mirrors, herringbone laid oak flooring and brass detailing, the sprawling showroom evokes Northern Italian architecture of the 1950s and 60s. Draped felt panels from FitzFelt complete the high-style design.

A full selection of the classics are here, from the Wassily club chair to the Florence Knoll sofa and the Eero Saarinen pedestal table (there are also new collections and introductions from David Adjaye, Mark Krusin, and David Rockwell), but they’ve been give a beguiling makeover that’ll put the va va voom in your home with innovative materials, unusual colors and a selection of beatiful metals and marbles (Think a pale pink leather Barcelona couch). Contemporary ideas and palettes for living influenced by Modernist ideas flourish here, giving rise to exuberant reinventions of Knoll designs that serves to underline their eternal appeal. The shop also highlights Knoll designs available in the U.S. for the first time like the Avio sofas and Grasshopper tables by Piero Lissoni and Tobia Scarpa’s Bastino lounge collection.

“Los Angeles interior designers set the benchmark for modern with a special passion for stunning materials and finishes,” notes Benjamin Pardo. “Our LA Shop experience is designed to deliver their bold vision by offering unsurpassed customization of furniture forms that complement architectural space.”
