Revival Rugs Rolls Out The Carpet on a New Paradigm in Rug Buying

Author:

When Ben Hyman and his wife Amber began looking for rugs for their new Oakland home last year, what should have been a joyous search quickly turned stressful.

“We had just moved and our wooden floors were bare. We thought finding a new rug would be a fun process, but it quickly turned into a stressful buying experience,” Hyman recalls. “Everywhere we looked for a rug — whether in person or online — there was a general lack of transparency, unreasonable prices, and poor-quality machine-made replicas. We didn’t have the money to spend thousands on the handmade rugs we loved, but we also didn’t want to settle for something inferior.”

Fortunately, their search coincided with their honeymoon in Turkey where they reconnected with old friends, Kurt and Joyce. The couple were interested in bringing Turkish rugs to the American marketplace. Hyman had a better idea. Bringing his experience as a co-founder of Brooklinen, which had cut out the middleman to bring the luxury of fine bedding directly to the consumer, they’d apply the same model to the world of rugs, working directly with local artisans and vendors to offer up beautiful, one-of-a-kind rugs and cushion covers.

The result is Revival Rugs, a carefully curated selection of high quality, authentic vintage rugs and cushion covers from Turkey, handwoven with hand-spun wool, at prices that are up to ten times lower than those found elsewhere. The categories include original vintagevintage overdyedvintage distressedvintage antique washedvintage kilims and vintage kilim cushions
