All That Glitters: Gabriela Artigas Opens On Melrose

Author:

Sisters Gabriela and Tere Artigas founded their their jewelery line in 2003 but it’s only recently that they settled on a space on Melrose Avenue, opening their showroom to the public for the first time.

Their stunning pieces are a study in the beauty of contrast and tension, at once simple and complex, fashion-forward and timeless, sensuous and architectural. They needed a setting that matched that complexity.

Enter friends of the brand: Tatum Kendrik from Studio Hus, Hillary Taymour from Collina Strada and their brother, Alex Artigas from Artless, who created the furniture for the space.

Mixing mid-century modern, minimalism and Arte Moderne, curves and  textures abound, from the semi-circular display cases to the round stools, covered in rich absinthe green and deep apricot velvet, to the organic mirror, custom wood furniture and the diaphonous draperies, held back by the gold plated tusks that are a trademark shape of the sisters’ work.

Maintaining the balance, hard texutres and shiny surfaces — a mirrored countertop which magnifies the size of the slender 850 square foot space, watery green marbles tables with chromed metal and marble bases, and metal deer sculptures — keep the space from tipping into sacchrine.

The combination creates the perfect foil for the subtle sensuality and bold minimalism of the “everyday statement” jewelry.
