Alchemy Works Welcomes Warby Parker with a Glass House
Alchemy Works decided to partner with Warby Parker because there is a positive overlap of audiences plus they wanted to create a unique shopping experience in the downtown arts district.
Alchemy Works collaborated with designer Phil Otto of Otto Design Group and the Warby Parker internal creative team to come up with a concept for the Warby Parker showroom inside the store. The glass house is an elevated green house. They wanted to create both an artful and creative concept for the Warby Parker store that would draw customers to the Alchemy Works location over the other Warby Parker locations.
The wallpaper is designed by the Warby Parker internal graphics team in New York City and is a fun play on all the different reading positions.
The store carries a variety of lifestyle items from a watch to a vintage car (coming soon!).
The red chairs are designed by District Millworks (across the street from Alchemy Works), who also designed the large shelving unit. The photography is by artist and friend, Will Adler, who shoots landscapes and fashion with a focus on a coastal aesthetic.
There is a shared door between Alchemy Works and Blacktop Coffee that allows guests to feel that the store is more of a place to gather and meet a new friend or have a great conversation without any pressure.
Alchemy Works celebrates and represents all the talented designers, photographers, and makers in Los Angeles. The assorted mix of products is influenced by the owner’s coastal upbringing, so the goal of the store is to really keep it feeling California. The products are curated to tell a small piece of the designer’s story, but keeping everything balanced as to not let one particular line dominate the space.
The word “alchemy” represents turning things into gold, so it was fitting for the name of the store because they carry products that are from makers in the Golden State. They also used the name because the store is a place to show off designers’ best work.
