Design DIY: Folding Chair Makeover

MacGyver your ordinary folding chairs into comfortable cushions with just a few everyday materials. Big thanks to Christine Wisnieski from Design for Mankind for sharing this nifty project with us!

folding chair
drop cloth
spray paint (2 cans per chair)
fabric (20″ x 20″ piece per chair)
staple gun

1. Using a screwdriver, remove existing cushion from chair frame and set aside.
2. In a well-ventilated area, place chair on drop cloth and wipe down with damp towel. Using slow side-to-side movements, apply two thin coats of spray paint, and let dry overnight. Tip: If chair is a dark color or has a smooth finish, apply primer before painting.
3. Lay out your new fabric and place seat cushion face down. Trim fabric along edge of cushion (approximately 3″ from edge). Once cut, use a staple gun to attach fabric. Begin by stapling at the center of each side and then at the corners. Tip: If using a patterned fabric, align to your liking prior to stapling.
4. Once chair is dry, assemble with new cushion and sit in style!
