Designer Crush: Brett Beldock

1. Who is your biggest role model?  

Coco Chanel. She was a woman in her own business before women had businesses. 

2. Which movie or play do you wish you could have designed the set for?

Roman Holiday.

3. What is the best way to gauge a client’s personality before starting a project?

I see how they interact with their significant other and people who work for them.

4. What new design trends are you excited to integrate into your work?

Rough, natural woods that have a lttle bit of coffee or wax to them. Grained woods with high gloss and matte black, raffias with prints that look like 1968 tweeds, and a lot of oak with copper and bronze.

5. How do you completely unwind?

Spend time with my boxer and sketching new furniture. 

6. If you hadn't become a designer, which career would you have pursued?

Now I think I would have loved to be a journalist or a TV writer. I can predict any event or sentence about to happen in a Dick Wolf TV show. 

7. What’s the worst pre-designer job you’ve ever had and why?

I was a governess in France. I was too young to enjoy it properly.

You need both.

10. First celebrity crush?

Paul McCartney. Who knew he would marry a New York City woman my age! I blew it.

11. What’s your hidden talent?

Dog whisperer and predicter of TV dramas.

I love Cecils in Harlem.

LA. I have a collection of wallpaper at Harbinger.
