Designer Crush: Kelly Lamb

1. Who is your biggest role model?

I don’t have one role model really, I like to take a little of this and a little of that and learn from different people.

2. Which movie or play do you wish you could have designed the set for?

The movie Harold and Maude is one of my all time classic favorite films and it would have been a total blast to design for.

3. What is the best way to gauge a client’s personality before starting a project?

Sit down with them over tea.

4. What new design trends are you excited to integrate into your work?

I try to stay away from trends.

5. How do you completely unwind?

Meditation and massage.

6. If you hadn't become a designer, which career would you have pursued?

I’m an artist that happens to also design, so I have the best of both worlds.

7. What’s the worst pre-designer job you’ve ever had and why?

When I first graduated from college I worked for Mark di Survero at Socrates Sculpture Park in LIC. The grounds of the park needed a lot of upkeep so they also hired guys that were doing time and were sentenced to community service… It was a colorful working environment to say the least.

8. What’s your favorite recipe?

I love a good Pimm’s Cup cocktail:

  • In a cocktail shaker, muddle, a slice of ginger, an orange slice, and a few mint leaves.
  • Add 1-2 ounces of Pimm’s, 1 ounce of gin, about ¼ ounce of freshly squeezed lemon juice, and around ¼ ounce of agave nectar to taste.
  • Shake that all up and strain through your cocktail strainer, into a glass with fresh ice and 2 ounces of ginger beer.
  • Garnish with another cucumber slice, Orange slice and a lemon wheel.

The mix of the Pimm’s cup’s herbs, with citrus and fresh cucumber is perfection.

9. Create your perfect playlist for us.

Lightning round!

10. Would you rather shop new or vintage?

Both, it’s the mix that makes things interesting and timeless.

11. First celebrity crush?

12. What’s your hidden talent?

I think I was a dancer in a past life.

13. Best restaurant in your area? Where is it?

My favorite right now is the Tower Bar restaurant in West Hollywood, it’s old school Hollywood and it draws a great mixed crowd, you just never know who you will meet.

14. SF or LA?

LA of course, but SF is the best for a visit!
