Secret Sources: Leslie Harris-Keane’s Bay Area Spots

Leslie’s recent project, a stunning Berkeley Craftsman home, displays her true talent for layering prints, textures, and gorgeous family heirlooms to create a space that is both beautiful and functional. The clients, a couple with four young children, wanted a mature family home that was stylish, casual, and comfortable. Leslie designed a multifunctional room that could serve as a space for the couple to host family movie nights, entertain guests, or relax and enjoy a glass of wine together after work. To honor the traditional bones of the house, the designer selected traditional elements to accentuate the original leaded glass windows and large wooden fireplace. Leslie integrated preexisting family heirlooms, such as the baby grand piano, industrial crane table lamp, and vintage maps of Berkeley, into her design, juxtaposing them with bright pops of color, comfortable seating, and Asian elements for a fresh look.

Zentner Collection, Emeryville

This store has an amazing collection of antiques from all over Asia and is one of my favorite spots for Japanese Tansu and Asian art. The showroom itself feels more like a museum with numerous rooms of antique furniture stacked floor to ceiling. I love that you never know what you’ll stumble upon. I once turned the corner and was greeted by a full-sized stuffed lion!

Loot Antiques, Berkeley

One of my favorite places to go to for inspiration, Loot is a treasure trove of a store. Ron Morgan, the shop’s owner and acclaimed floral designer, has curated a witty and eclectic mix of furniture, antiques, mirrors, and home accessories. The displays alone make every trip inspiring and worthwhile.

Attic Child, Martinez

I stumbled upon this shop while taking a break from jury duty. Fred, the shop’s friendly and knowledgeable owner, has a large selection of vintage and antique furniture that he’s brought back to life with a fresh coat paint. If you’re looking to reimagine an old furniture piece, you must go see Fred.

Sue’s Barn, Manteca

Sue fills her turn of the century barn with antiques and collectables twice a year. For 10 days in April and October, antique lovers from across California head to Manteca for one of kind treasures curated by the energetic and sweet Sue Guillan. Opening night of Sue’s Barn is one of my favorite nights of the year!

Etsy, online handmade and vintage marketplace

Obviously not located in any one place, Etsy is a great resource for quality, custom pillows. My two favorite shops on Etsy are PopOColor and SparkModern. Both shops are filled with the best collection designer pillow covers. The quality is fabulous and shipping is speedy.
