Redwoods and Earth Tones Make Over a 1960s Ranch Home

After nearly 16 years of continuous “kid traffic” parading through their 1960s ranch home, Suzanne and Bob Whelan called upon the talents of Urrutia Design to give their beloved playhouse a makeover. Major improvements included opening up individual rooms and altering support beams to give existing ceiling space a more expansive feel. By incorporating stately redwood tables into the family room and dining area, Urrutia Design infused an earthy palette into the Whelan’s new, redesigned abode - a major game changer, as the Whelans wanted to bridge natural colors of the adjacent flagstone patio into the interior. After installing custom touches like built-in bookshelves, a fabricated banquette, and striking black cabinetry, the Whelan’s average, boxy home transformed into a contemporary, airy abode.
