Sonoma's Graton Resort & Casino Deals Las Vegas Glam

The rolling hills around Sonoma County are known for vineyards and farms, but these days a new casino is dealing out Las Vegas style to the agrarian environs around Rohnert Park, just 50 miles north of San Francisco. Graton Resort & Casino isn’t the first casino in Sonoma, but it is the newest (opened a week ago) and biggest (340,000 square feet). According to casino representatives, it’s also the most elegant.

The difference is evident at the front door. “It took 10 years to get this casino built,” says Lori Nelson of Station Casinos. “While going through the process, the company used the time to thoughtfully design the building.” The casino is owned by the Federated Indians of Graton Rancheria and operated by Station Casinos, a company founded and run by Las Vegas brothers Frank and Lorenzo Fertitta, who also own the Ultimate Fighting Championship. The brothers are known for their love of art and design—and both are in evidence here. The goal is to create a building with the glam of LV and the natural beauty of CA; hence the arched entrance and green walls, the mostly local fieldstone, and warm wood and copper accents.
