Legaspi Courts Design
Legaspi Courts Design — architect Christopher Courts, interior designer Edel Legaspi and contractor Michael Farag — underscore the magic of working with family to create a home in Santa Monica
There’s a seamless rhythm between interior and exterior apparent in the work of Legaspi Courts Design. Chalk it up to the close relationship between the firm’s partners: architect Christopher Courts, interior designer Edel Legaspi and Edel’s brother-in-law Michael Farag, who acts as the firm’s contractor. The rug is from Marc Phillips Decorative Rugs. A couch from A. Rudin and chairs by Douglas Jennings surround a custom coffee table.
The hillside house, located behind the Santa Monica airport in the coveted Sunset Park neighborhood of Santa Monica, offered the trio an intriguing challenge. To maximize the steeps site’s potential, Courts designed a terraced space that followed the lines of the hillside. The kitchen’s appliances were sourced from Snyder Diamond.
The low key exterior doesn’t belie its size from the street; its proportions keep it in line with the scale of the neighborhood. It’s only once you step inside that its light, airy and spacious charms are revealed. Chairs by Stephen Kenn surround a dining table custom designed by Legapsi Courts Design.
The home celebrates the indoor outdoor lifestyle that is the hallmark of living in Southern California. On the street level, there’s an uninterrupted flow that merges the kitchen and formal living room with a covered family room and the expansive outdoor terrace with its ocean and city views. The sprawling Maro sofa is by Juniper.
