Creative with Canvas, Ace Hotel Palm Springs
    Designed by Atelier Ace

The Ace Hotel Palm Springs uses canvas for everything—as a rustic room divider, a substitute for wallpaper and even curtains. It's inexpensive, easy to clean and gives a room a comforting texture.

A plain mirrored wall may be too much for a regular residential room, but do as the W did and add a graphic buffer. In the redesign led by Stanley Saitowitz, they used a pointillism-inspired pattern of dots, but other options include a semi-translucent curtain of chain or fabric.

Wood With a Past, Ventana Inn & Spa

The Ventana Inn & Spa is synonymous with rustic luxury, and the spa epitomizes this. Gorgeous stone and sparkling blue water are set off by the richness of the aged wood slats. Using a rustic material in an otherwise luxurious space can add to the feeling of sumptuousness.

    Plywood Placement, Hotel Tomo
    Designed by Joie de Vive

Hotel Tomo is great example of what Joie de Vive does best: high style on a modest budget. For a statement-making, modern headboard, inexpensive plywood was affixed to the wall. The wood in its natural, unfinished state looks best with bold pops of color.
