Real Estate Report: Modern Living in Echo Park with Dick + Jane

In the Echo Park neighborhood of Los Angeles, a pair of siblings–two single family modern houses fill an empty lot where a house had burned down twenty years earlier.

The Basics: A pair of newly-constructed houses, each with 3 bedrooms and 2.5 baths plus a 2-car garage, each asking $679K.

Not so Basic: Named Dick + Jane, and heads above the usual infill/spec housing, the project was put together by Heyday, a firm that's made this kind of housing in Echo Park– a neighborhood of mostly 1920's bungalows and small multi-unit buildings— its specialty. First covered yesterday in Curbed LA  and worth reading, if just for the comments,  Dick + Jane are sleek and open, with an almost-futurist second story.

The main floor has two levels, a seating area and dining/kitchen space, and a small enclosed patio tucked into the side, plus a deck over the garage, elevated and private from the street but still open to the scruffy LA view:

Below, a view of the second floor from the garage deck, and the hallway. Crisp, with clean details:

Above, the kitchen is simple, with a good work triangle, and we like that window  under the cabinets looking out into the hillside. Below, floor plans:

Plans from the Heyday site, which also includes a fascinating blow-by-blow blog of the construction of Dick + Jane from the open house last weekend and backwards to the site preparation. Plus special thanks to Elizabeth Daniels for the images. In Los Angeles this weekend? The houses are open Sunday, March 20, from 2 to 5pm.
