Family-Friendly Modernism In Rustic Canyon, $4.5M

Where: 731 Greentree Road, Pacific Palisades
Asking: $4,500,000
What: A 1949 gem by early Modernist architect Kenneth Lind in Rustic Canyon, originally dubbed The Platform House, now a 3-bed, 4-bath home reinvented by the LA/Montecito firm of Shubin Donaldson. Set on stilts to capture the view, the ground level was filled in with family-friendly entertaining spaces while the second, original level was renovated into bedrooms and an open lounge/office area around the stairwell. Below, an original rendering of the house from the blog MidCentury Architecture.

The ground floor is now an open, flowing space with a central kitchen and a media room.

What We Love: The 1949 original may have been a lovely, formal pavilion set above the landscape, but sensitive renovation made what was potentially a teardown into a new home, accessible to the outdoors.
