The day after Melissa Hanley and her husband Seth were laid off from the same firm during the economic downturn, they did the unthinkable: they launched a business. Since the creation of their architecture and design firm, Blitz, the couple have worked with some of Silicon Valley's biggest tech giants like Google, Yahoo!, and Microsoft. Together, the duo have led the design and implementation of more than 225 projects across nearly 4,000,000 square feet, and have worked on projects all across America, Western Europe, Australia, and Asia. 1. Tell us the origin story of Blitz.
We founded Blitz on optimism and resilience the morning after the two of us were laid off from the same firm during the height of the economic meltdown—a time when many design firms were experiencing profound hardships or closing their doors altogether. We’d gone to a café to recoup and develop a plan of action, and thus Blitz was born. We decided to name our new venture “Blitz,” as an allusion to the dynamism, spirit, and energy of our work processes. Read More...

While Los Angeles-based mixed media artist K’era Morgan currently has a penchant for small works on paper, she says she's had a long-term love affair with cultural textile traditions. As the founder of k-apostrophe, Morgan creates luxury prints and textiles for the home incorporating methods influenced by tribal and global textile surface design, mark making, and quilt-making. The resulting "pieced together" look of her collaged paintings is responsible for k-apostrophe's signature style. In addition to her collage work, Morgan collaborates with one of the few remaining American mills to transform her multi-media pieces into colorful woven throw blankets made of 100% hand-dyed cotton for home interiors.
