The anticipated 11-day celebration of mid-century modern architecture, interior design, landscape architecture, art and vintage culture in Palm Springs also known as Modernism Week, t returns with an outstanding selection of featured events, stellar home tours and the Modernism Show & Sale and Modern Design Expo. 

Featured Events at Modernism Week 

The week’s festivities will kick-off Thursday, February 14 with its infamous Opening Night Party, hosted at the Indian Canyons Golf Resort and presented by Ferguson Bath, Kitchen & Lighting.  The evening will draw guests back to the groovy swingin’ sixties and feature Casino Royale, a 12-piece orchestra band performing all the greatest hits from the era. 

The Christopher Kennedy Show House First Look, Gala and After-Party 

The Modernism Week Show House: The Christopher Kennedy Compound will debut with an exclusive Friday night first look party on Friday, February 15 and officially be unveiled at the red-carpet gala on Saturday, February 16th where guests will get to mingle with the visionaries behind the home’s transformation.  Limited tickets will also be available for the show house’s dazzling Starlight after party. 

 

Book Signing with Grant C. Kirkpatrick of KAA Design

Join California Closets and the California Home + Design team for bubbles and a book signing celebrating the debut of architect Grant C. Kirkpatrick’s anticipated book, California Contemporary, featuring custom homes of California.  Be sure to arrive early as the first 25 guests will receive a complimentary copy of this must-have book!

 

A Celebration For Preservation

SIA Projects, a non-profit foundation championing the fight to preserve significant architecture as art via Protection, Preservation and Awareness, will be hosting an exclusive event at the Cary Grant’s legendary desert four-acre retreat known as Villa Paradiso. Join SIA founders Ron Woodson and Jaime Rummerfield in your caftans and turbans for an exquisite night of preservation. 

 

Sinatra Estate, Presented by Ferguson

The Saturday night soiree, sponsored by Ferguson Bath, Kitchen & Lighting Gallery, will be held at the iconic Twin Palms Sinatra estate on February 23.  Join design enthusiasts for a special evening where attendees will explore the legendary home and taste the good life at Frank Sinatra’s Twin Palm Estate. 

Must-See Home Tours at Modernism Week 

The wide variety of Home tours during the 11-day design festival provides a glimpse of how designers interpret mid-century design today and also celebrates the incredible history of Palm Springs.  

The Modernism Week Show House: The Christopher Kennedy Compound 

The anticipated return of the Christopher Kennedy Compound will showcase 14 of the industry’s most renowned interior designers and rising stars to reimagine a spectacular 1962 home featuring three bedrooms, three bathrooms and an attached guest house.  The A-list of designers selected to create their unique interpretation of midcentury design include, Kerry Green, Joe Lucas, Lori Paranjape, Celerie Kemble, Christopher Kennedy, Brian Paquette, Keith Fortner, Jeff Schlarb, Michael Berman, Lisa McDennon, Josh Greene, Michelle Boudreau, Chris Barrett and Gordon Kurtis. 

Featured Homes 

Modernism Week will again offer exclusive tours of five featured homes, taking place throughout the week. They include: the Green Gables House designed by Palmer-Krisel in 1958 and completely renovated by H3K Design; the La Vie en Rose House, also designed by Christopher Kennedy in the Vista Las Palmas neighborhood; the Desert Eichler house, home to HGTV’s stars Brad and Heather Fox of Stay or Sell; the Axiom Desert House, which will offer a lucky tour attendee a private stay at the residence; and the Sackley Shadadelic House redesigned by Thomboy Properties, the masterminds behind last year’s Moroccan Modern home. 

Signature Home Tours 

The Signature Home Tours offer visitors a cross-section of iconic desert modern design from midcentury classics to contemporary interpretations. There is still availability to tour Modernism Week’s Signature Homes during the second week of the festival which takes place on February 24th.  This year’s featured architects are Richard Neutra, E. Stewart Williams, Hugh Kaptur, Jim Jennings and William Cody. 

Modernism Show & Sale and Modern Design Expo 

The Show & Sale is one of the premier events of Modernism Week and will showcase more than 90 local and international decorative and fine arts dealers with items representing all design movements of the 20th and 21st Century. 

The Palm Springs Modern Design Expo is also a must-see and will feature contemporary home design products and technology from more than 40 exhibitors. You can view cutting edge elements for modern living including energy-efficient building concepts, dynamic home appliances, smart home technology and security, hand-crafted furniture and design accessories, contemporary art and photography.
