Peek Inside Sherri McMullen’s New Oakland Boutique

Author:

Sherri McMullen is no stranger to the fashion scene. She opened her Oakland boutique, McMullen, in 2007, and was quickly recognized as one of the industry’s top innovators by the likes of WWD, Forbes, Vogue, and more.

Now the entrepreneur is branching out with a new location for Oakland-based business McMullen says the boutique pays homage to three elegant influencers in her life: her mother, grandmother, and aunt. The familial influence comes through loud and clear in the store’s design, created by Chloe Warner of Redmond Aldrich. The colorful space is peppered with 1970s polaroids of the women who inspired McMullen’s vision.

Staying true to her roots was an important mission for McMullen when thinking through the details of the new space. Rather than relying on the standard white, black, and metallic-hued mannequins that typically showcase clothing, McMullen is the only store in America to feature custom mannequins powder-coated to mimic the owner’s own skin tone. To round out the boutique’s unique aesthetic, Warner implemented Terazzo tiles and velvet mauve drapes.

McMullen is located at 2257 Broadway, Oakland, CA 94612. Hours are Mon-Sat 10am-7pm, Sunday 12pm-5pm. Visit shopmcmullen.com for more info.
