It's a quiet week in the San Francisco art arena, but it's about quality, not quantity, isn't it? This week there are three superb openings to visit, from the heart of Union Square to the depths of the SFSU campus. Come check out what's happening where.

Just when you thought the San Francisco design scene couldn't get any cooler — wait, did you really think that? — a new showroom opens its doors. Located in the city's historic and style-centric Jackson Square district, Varian Designs' 1,100-square-foot showroom features nine designs from its Timber, Broen and brand-new Home collections, as well as original art by the company's founder, Forest Dickey. What a perfect first name for a man who crafts stunning furniture from solid wood.

Week after week, there's no shortage of art openings in San Francisco. But since it's cold and blustery and we need a little pick-me-up, this week we're turning our heads to a three-letter word: FUN. Art can evoke numerous emotions but right now we're craving that which makes us laugh, smile, and maybe even blush. Amuse yourself at one of these three hot openings this week.

If you favor gilded French furniture, delicate florals, and all things shabby chic, Pasadena-based e-commerce shop Layla Grace will answer your design prayers. But if, like many of us here at CH+D, your interiors style leans more towards the modern and transitional, it's your lucky day: the California company has just launched a brand-new online store with a contemporary bent.

There's never a dull moment in San Francisco's art scene. If you missed last week's awesome lineup of gallery openings, don't you worry: there's a new troop of exhibitions parading into town this week, along with plenty of opening receptions to fill up your calendar. Come find out what's happening where this week.

Millworks LA is movin' on up, as they say. The Los-Angeles-based textile producer has opened a new shop-in-shop in one of the hottest new furniture stores in San Francisco: H.D. Buttercup (another LA export). For those of you looking to combat SF's dreary, misty winter days, the label's cheery new collection offers just the dose of vibrancy and effervescence that you need.
