Design Destination: Perfectly Paris With Alle FisterAuthor:Candace Abbott
Some think that magic doesn’t exist, but if you’ve ever strolled the streets of Paris in the Spring then you have no doubt, it’s everywhere. Los Angeles darling and principle of Bollare Communications, ALLE FISTER, has a Southern California soul but is a Parisian at heart. Whether exploring the Paris Fashion Week circuit with clients, uncovering lesser-known Parisian “secrets” or spending time in quaint galleries with her husband, Fister is a French aficionado, not to mention an undeniably stylish and trusted source on creating an authentic Paris experience.
We caught up with with Alle Fister, the bicoastal PR powerhouse, as she as she settled back into her aptly designed West Hollywood office to talk Parisian design, dining, street art, day strolls, where to get the best burger and, of course, fashion. Her face beams when she dishes on her adoration for the “City of Lights” with its rich spirit of diversity.
PARIS CONJURES FEELINGS OF ROMANCE, STYLE AND AN INEXPLICABLE MAGIC. WHAT PROMPTS YOUR TRAVELS TO THIS WONDROUS CITY?
There are so many great reasons to go to Paris. I absolutely adore the city, whether for work or pleasure! This latest trip was a blend of tradeshows and Paris Fahsion Week. We extended our trip a few days to celebrate the birthday of my European Office Leader, Farris Green’s, (best dinner at SPRING), which my husband, Don Popkes of One Tuscany, flew out for. My husband and I then spent a few days exploring (and eating) our way through the city.
WHAT IS IT ABOUT PARIS THAT INSPIRES YOU? Its diversity. You can explore so many different districts, each with their own spirit.
WHAT DID YOU DISCOVER ON THIS TRIP THAT YOU HADN’T EXPERIENCED BEFORE? The wonderful thing about going to a city often (we go several times a year) is that you can start to know the city. By now, we have so many wonderful friends and clients there who each have shared their favorite Parisian “secrets” with us, which gives the city that much more dimension and personal intrigue.
NO DOUBT THAT “THE CITY OF LIGHTS” IS KNOWN FOR ITS FASHION. TELL US ABOUT YOUR TOP THREE SHOPPING DESTINATIONS AND WHY:
L’ECLAIREUR– amust for a fashion-forward guy or gal. The well-curated selection spans from home décor to fashion to select fragrances. I personally always go to eye the fabulous Fornasetti selection!
MERCI – From its iconic red Mini in the courtyard to vin- tage book library, this boutique exudes charm and can be explored for hours.
TOM GREYHOUND– All of my favorite fashion designers under one, well-merchandised roof. You cannot go into this boutique and not be blown away by the merchandising.
WE KNOW DESIGN IS A PART OF YOUR DNA, HOW DOES PARIS INSPIRE YOU FROM AN INTERIORS STANDPOINT? My husband and I have a love for French furniture and design. A visit to Roche Bobois’ headquarters showroom is always a part of the itinerary. Whether you purchase something or not, simply going there to be inspired by their design, creative eye and spatial design…you will not be disappointed!
ARE THAN ANY ART SPOTS OR GALLERIES THAT YOU FIND YOURSELF GOING BACK TO WITH EACH VISIT? On our last trip, we spent hours inside Centre Pompidou, but trip after trip, exploring the boutique-sized galleries is always high on our list.
WHAT ARE ONE OR TWO LESSER-KNOWN SPOTS THAT YOU WANT TO SHARE WITH CHD READERS AND DESIGN-LOVERS ALIKE?
- Barthélémy : Best cheese shop on the planet.
- Maison des Rêves : Pastry shop of your dreams with the most architecturally fun build out. You cannot not take an Instagram!
- Papier Plus : Adorable French finds for home and office in bright colors that will make you happy!
- SENTOU : Curated to perfection, housewares, furniture and jewelry.
PARIS AND LA (WHERE YOU LIVE) ARE POLAR OPPOSITES, BUT WHAT BITS OF FRANCE DO YOU BRING BACK TO SOCAL AND INTEGRATE INTO YOUR DAY-TO-DAY? If I could be described as French-chic with a SoCal spirit…I mean, what better compliment could there be? I love the French interior style; the food, the fashion and fusing that with So Cal’s love for outdoors, RAD spirit and overall “happy” vibe…there is no better combination.
DOORS, YOU LOVE THEM. WHAT ABOUT THE DOORS OF PARIS DO YOU FIND INTRIGUING? The doors of Paris are gorgeous, colorful and iconic, merging that with the curiosity they elicit. What is behind those doors? They always stand out to me, and I find myself playing a mental imagination game while appreciating their beauty!
“You can explore so many different districs, each with their own spirit.”— SAYS FISTER
