Nob Hill Spa Offers a Serene Retreat With a City ViewAuthor:Michelle Konstantinovsky
The ultimate dilemma for San Francisco visitors (or locals with some time to spare): when presented with a rare and beautiful Karl the Fog-free day, do you explore the city’s rich historic landmarks or prioritize self-care over sunshine and treat yo’self instead? Thankfully, the Nob Hill Spa provides a serene, sun-drenched sanctuary in one of the city’s most iconic sites, so you can indulge and still feel like you’ve fulfilled your civic duties. Compromise is a beautiful thing.
The spa is located just inside the twelve-story Georgian-style Scarlet Huntington Hotel, one of the city’s landmark luxury hotels, and an homage to the original 1920s incarnation (which now looks a little more glam since undergoing a $15 million facelift). While the design has been updated and elevated to blend Singapore Straits Chinese heritage with high-fashion luxury, the original site’s legacy remains perfectly preserved, and the hotel’s high standard of service applies to the spa sanctuary located adjacent to the ground floor lobby.
The three-level facility combines equal parts escapism and cosmopolitan style. The indoor pool, whirlpool, and cozy fireplace look out onto the city’s epic skyline, and if the weather is really working in your favor, you can enjoy the view from the outdoor patio.
But besides the jaw-dropping views and idyllic location, the spa’s big draw are the treatments. While you can choose from all the classics like Swedish-style massage and European facials, the signature experiences are where it’s at. Case in point: The Nirvana, a 110-minute pamper-fest that leaves you feeling soft, supple, and wondering how your achy skeleton has seemingly exitted your body. Beginning with a Himalayan Salt Crystal exfoliation, the treatment includes marma point massage and herbal-infused body oils, and ends with an Ayurveda-inspired experience called a Shirodhara. Your practitioner sends a slow stream of warm oil over your third eye and into your hair, leaving you feeling like you’ve bathed in sweet, smooth honey.
