Los Cabos, Mexico Ushers in a New Wave of ArchitectureAuthor:Michelle Konstantinovsky
Mexico City’s Fernando de Haro has already made a name for himself in the architecture world and his latest Baja California-based project is stirring up international buzz. The 27 single-family villas of West Enclave, a Ritz-Carlton Reserve Residence solidify de Haro’s role in the current split from traditional colonial architecture toward a sleek, modern, mid-century aesthetic that can be seen sweeping through Los Cabos.
Blending local materials and design styles with a modern approach, de Haro has drawn inspiration from the natural terrain, paying homage to the surrounding Sierra de la Laguna Mountains and the Sea of Cortez. Each of the single-family, single-level Reserve Residences incorporates an open design concept with a total of 10,000 square feet of indoor/outdoor living space, floor-to-ceiling windows and an expansive living and dining room that opens up entirely to 4,000 square feet of outdoor living space. Each Residence is outfitted with four to five bedrooms featuring en-suite bathrooms with outdoor showers and massage gardens.
“The desert landscape of Los Cabos provided both a challenge and opportunity when designing the Residences,” de Haro said. “When you are here, you instantly feel there is a deep relationship between the desert sand, the sea and the warm ocean breeze. My goal was to create an environment that marries these elements, and allows the air to flow openly through each home while also providing a protective environment.”
Cooking connoisseurs will also be pleased to know that each of the 12 remaining West Enclave Reserve Residences features a double kitchen finished with Sub-Zero and Wolf appliances, and a choice of cream marble and black granite countertops. Each home also includes an entertainment room with en-suite bathroom, service room with 3/4 bathroom, two powder rooms, and a host of premium tech gadgets.
To round out the luxury living experience, residents have access to a variety of outdoor amenities including more than 4,000 square feet of outdoor living space complete with a private swimming pool and spa, covered living and dining area with bar, fireplace and BBQ, open-air courtyard with fire feature, fire pit, two golf cart parking spaces, and a two-car garage.
12 Reserve Residences are still available within West Enclave, and pricing begins at $4.1 million. If you’re looking for more options, a second phase of Reserve Residences including 60 condominium homes is on the way, as is the Reserve hotel, which will feature 120 rooms and is slated to open in late 2017.
