The High Life: Pendry San DiegoAuthor:Candace Abbott
San Diego is celebrated for its laidback vibe and it’s beautiful beaches, but it’s also revered for it’s downtown scene or as most know it, the Gaslamp Quarter. Well, there’s a new locale in town, one that’s blending design, luxury and an all around good time. Welcome, Pendry San Diego.
Standing tall with 12 stories, the fresh building is one to behold–from top to bottom.
Double doors open to reveal a lobby that’s an supremely decadent version of someone’s living space; you’re immediately entranced and considering staying forever. The lobby space draws from a mix of elements bringing in a duo of soft ivory sofas facing one another alongside gray club chairs and a marble-meets-brass coffee table. Sky high ceilings merge with all around glass paned walls all of which enhances the beauty of a limestone fireplace and intricate black and white tile flooring. Sounds like perfection, right?
With a unique layout, you’re then left to make your way through one of many entryways–the bell desk, drawing inspiration from 30’s and 40’s decked out in rich wood and accented with emerald seating and soft lighting; the bar Fifth & Rose, which garners Gatsby vibes boasting plaid velvet seating, black marble tabletops, a shimming fixture over the bar, a flood of greenery and touches of daylight when the sun shines; or through the hall and towards the back of the property where Provisional Kitchen sits.
All in all the bustling hotel is home to 317 guestrooms and once you’ve made your way to one, it’s clear why people can’t stop chatting about the greatest of this place. Up the vintage elevators and down the unassuming hallways, enter into a room that laced in luxury and showing off a preppy vibe. Cozy king beds with crisp white linens by Fil D’Oro share space with Tom Adler artwork and perfectly appointed plaid chaise lounges letting on to views of Downtown San Diego including Petco Park.
The shower, too, is something to behold as it is open to the entire guestroom (shade are there for privacy, of course). Lather up with custom bath amenities from MiN as the light floods the room then slip into one of the luxury robes and kick back to admire the decor and marble mini bar.
The much talked about rooftop pool is one space you don’t want to miss. Sunkissed and giving definition to daylife, the pool space is surrounded with cozy canvas daybeds and signature striped umbrellas. Whether ordering a crudite platter or burger or signature cocktail by the pool, you feel the energy from below rise up and the sun shine down. The bar space itself boasts a blend of rose gold touches through the lighting fixtures along with natural wood.
Greenery surrounds the area making a perfect segway to the spa, a 6,200 square foot space that’s committed to health, wellness and holistic treatments designed to restore your being.
As the day turns to night, dinner at one of the property’s raved about restaurants is truly in order. Provisional Kitchen features a seasonal menu that is safe to classify as “life changing” with sea bass that’s cooked to perfection, brussels sprouts that wow and decor that captivates from the time you walk in. You can’t miss the chandeliers, the mix of materials including velvet seating, brass cutlery, marble tabletops and wood detail–all setting a perfect backdrop for the artisanal fare.
Same goes for Lionfish, relegated as one of the Gaslamp most desired eateries right now.
Beyond food, sun, relaxation and wonderment, the hotel is home to a gallery filled with local art. And finally, it’s pet friendly, which is just another reason to visit. Expect your fur baby to be treated like a VIP, with a signature Pendry doggie bed, treats, and a special bowl.
At Pendry San Diego, everyone lives the high life.
