Modern Reduction
Author:Lindsey ShookGiving a modern update to the interiors of a very traditional home can be challenging while thrilling, for any design professional. “The exterior resembles the White House,” says Denise Bosley, of Denise Bosley Interiors, who led the overhaul of the kitchen and dining areas in an 11,000 square foot Colonial home in San Marino. The final result, which took around nine months to complete, was inpsired by the existing yellow-ish oak cabinets and old appliances. “My client wanted the new design to be as white and light as possibe,” says Bosley.

While out shopping, the client discovered Eggersmann and quickly fell in love. “I was in the process of sourcing from other brands but was very impressed with Eggersmann’s level of detail and unique offering,” notes the designer. From the appliances to the custom cabinetry featuring drawers that light up when opened, Eggersmann helped transform the kitchen. “Their team was so helpful. It was a great partnership.”

The kitchen was expanded into a breakfast nook area carrying the contemporary aesthetic into the dining room. “You can go further with modern finishes and details in kitchen areas,” says Bosley who removed all of the moldings and installed caseless doors. A wok kitchen was also built for the client’s chef, in order to minimize exposure to grease and odor. Quintessential to California living, the space opens up to the backyard, maximizing the indoor/outdoor experience. “My client’s children love hanging out on the island extension that opens to the outdoor area,” says Bosley.
