Real Estate Report: If Walls Could Talk, In Malibu Colony

This oceanfront house looks like it has a few stories to tell, and it’s on the market for $10.995M

The Basics: A circa-1927 oceanfront house with five bedrooms and four baths in Malibu Colony and asking $10.95M. Not So Basic: In a town where oceanfront is measured in feet, this one has forty-five of them. And even without seeing the twelve-person hot tub, you know there have been some serious parties here. Sadly, no pictures of what the realtor describes as an “oceanfront tea house” but (below) that may be one of the best dining rooms, ever, after a hard day on the beach:

Malibu Colony was the first beachfront community in Malibu after the first major road, Pacific Coast Highway, was opened the late 1920’s. It’s private and gated. Most of the houses are oceanfront, with some having more sandy beach, and some less; this one’s in the “less” category with mostly boulders as a seawall. The community has always been popular with Angelenos in the film business, and to quote the realtor this house was “a favorite summer retreat for numerous celebrities and is now available for sale for the first time in over 40 years!” And it looks every minute of it. Someone was very fond of Andy Warhol. There’s a huge tapestry of his iconic flowers from the early 1960’s hanging in the living room with assorted other images around the house. The hot tub for your very best friends plus a stranger or three:

Sadly, we no longer use wallpaper with such abandon. Reduced by $755 last week, the house has been on the market for about three months starting at $11.75M. More pictures at the listing, below.
