Real Estate Report: Annie Potts’ Eclectic Hacienda on the Market for $6.5M

Where: 5001 Van Alden Avenue, Tarzana
Asking: $6.495M
What: Owned by actress Annie Potts, this sprawling, 5-bed, 6-bath hacienda was built in 1934 and is loaded with her personal, quirky style, a fearless use of color and pattern– plus two swimming pools and a multitude of fountains– and lots of vintage tile:

One of the many outdoor spaces around the pool:

The master bath is a knockout, and there’s a private resistance exercise pool in a secluded part of the walled property, accessed from the master bedroom:

What We Love: Casual and comfortable throughout, the house has an effortless flow between indoors and out. Below, a glimspe of the foyer and a detail of the vast living room:

Pedigree: Built for a Winifred Reibold when Tarzana was still orange groves, according to Curbed LA the house was subsequently owned by actors Robert Montgomery and Robert Wagner. As for the design, it looks to us like a previously un-recorded house by Cliff May, the inventor of the California Ranch Style whose 1930s work has many of the same details as Ms. Potts’ house.
