Where: 8160 Villandry Drive, Truckee
What: This luxurious, 5-bed, 5.5-bath lodge in Truckee, near Lake Tahoe has none of the usual Log Cabin tropes– it’s a skilled, Modernist design by architect Blaze Makoid with a simple palette of materials. Using black-stained fir on the exterior and blending into the surrounding forest, the house is an elegant composition of stacked spaces over a stone platform.
A series of warm, interconnected open spaces with open views on the main floor:

All the bedrooms have similarly luxurious baths, worthy of a luxury hotel:
Where Is This Again? Near the natural wonder that is Lake Tahoe, Martis Camp is a Truckee development project adjacent to the Northstar California ski resort. With completely private facilities and lifts of its own (plus a golf course) Martis Camp is considered one of the best year-round resorts in the country. Properties start well above $2M and range to $10M, making this lodge merely middle class.
The Architect: Blaze Makoid, based in Bridgehampton, NY, has built a practice designing spectacular homes, mostly in the Hamptons. Have a look at his portfolio.
More: The house has more bells and whistles than you can shake a ski pole at– like a 240V car charger in the 3-car garage. Go to the listing’s dedicated site for additional images and information, plus a detailed overview of what the Martis Camp community offers.
