Open House Obsession: Heaven Is This Bungalow In Pasadena, $900KAuthor:Philip Ferrato
Where: 863 North Hill Avenue, Pasadena
When: Saturday and Sunday, August 15-16, from 2:00pm-4:00pm
What: A 4-bed, 2.5-bath 1920s bungalow in Pasadena’s Bungalow Heaven Landmark District is a celestial example of the genre. With an open, one-level floor plan, handsome details (nicely updated), and easy access to the outdoors, it has all the features sought by escapees from cold Mid-Western and Eastern winters, a well-chilled middle class that flooded into Southern California in the 1920s. We love the classical details out front, mimicking the much grander houses of the period and somehow combining a dormer and a pediment to frame the entry.
Minimally staged and move-in ready, someone’s going to have a great time making this their own bit of heaven.
The house has expanded into the rear yard with a master suite, below.
More: Check out the agent’s website for additional information and images. Greene + Greene’s iconic Gamble House is the archetypical Pasadena bungalow, but the the Bungalow Heaven Landmark District’s website is worth visiting for a more egalitarian look at the times. Below, the vintage rustic shed is the perfect backyard hideaway.
