The Record: Robin Williams’ Grand Napa Estate Sells for $18.1M

On a magnificent 635-acre property in Napa Valley, Gast Architects designed Villa Sorriso, an austere but family-friendly Mediterranean Style villa for the late, great tragic/comic comedian Robin Williams. With a total of 9 bedrooms and 15 baths in the main guest houses, it’s beautifully sited on the hillside between the vineyards and an open view of the Mayacamas Mountains. At $18.1M, it was the Bay Area’s most expensive property to sell in January.

Williams initially put it on the market in April, 2014 for $29.9M. Williams’ heirs relisted the property after his death, and as per the Wall Street Journal, it was sold late last month to French winemakers Château Pontet-Canet, one of the Médoc region’s premier vineyards. From the listing images, the house (which was built in 2000) looks both grand and genial.

As befits a star, it has one of the best home theaters we’ve ever seen.
