Open House Obsession: Have a Look at This Sweeping Pasadena Ranch, $3.1MAuthor:Philip Ferrato
Where: 3390 Lombardy Road, Pasadena
When: Saturday and Sunday, July 15/16 from 2:00pm-4:00pm
What: A sweeping, sprawling 4-bed, 5-bath hybrid/cross between a New England traditional and a California Ranch, effortlessly combining the best of both.
Working with a broad palette of wood and stucco and very much of its time (1953) the designer/architect was clearly under the influence of expert practitioners of the style– we’re thinking Gerard Colcord and Robert Ainsworth here. And set in an acre of mature landscape, most of the home’s rooms open directly to patios across the back. Below, there’s a sweeping, connected set of entertaining spaces. Purists might quibble over the painted timbers.
At one end of the living room, the wet bar is very much of its time. Hi-Ball Time!
What We Love: The house has great bones and is entirely livable, but you won’t feel bad about tearing out the ‘80s renovations and making the place your own. Plus we think it’s priced appropriately for that, and because glass block can be heinous.
Below, one end of the vast kitchen, and the fireplace nook of the master bedroom. With almost 4500-sq-ft, this is no Colonial cottage.
