Paradise for One (or Maybe Two) in Glen Ellen, $5MAuthor:Philip Ferrato
Where: 12550 Henno Road, Glen Ellen
What: A simple but beautifully-crafted Wine Country retreat on 27 secluded acres, this compound of three structures was designed by San Francisco architect Keith Anding for an East Bay woman who wanted a private, quiet place where she could entertain as well as be alone. There’s just one master suite adjacent to the airy main entertaining space plus a guest house and separate office/studio, all clustered along a ridge with outdoor “rooms” for gathering and lounging.
The open kitchen is great for casual entertaining, with huge sinks for prepping vegetable, but there’s also a 21st Century scullery, pantry, and wine storage tucked into the back.
Exteriors are clad in re-purposed barrel staves and stucco; the entire compound was designed to have a minimum impact on the landscape.
What We Love: In addition to a deep soaking tub, the serene master bath has both outdoor and indoor showers.
The fully-equipped guest house gives visitors the luxury of their own space.
More: Check out the listing for additional images, details, and a very seductive video. Plus there’s an SFGate article from a few years back. The property is represented by Holly Bennett of Sotheby’s International Homes.
