Trend: Cameos and Silhouettes

Author:

This trend has been hanging around for the past few months, but, perhaps because it is such a classic style, it doesn’t feel remotely outdated yet. After all, the art of creating a silhouette is as old as time, capturing a person’s likeness long before cameras came around. To this day it enchants, able to turn from romantic and nostalgic (a customized cameo), to bold and modern (a series of anonymous silhouettes). Either way the look is graphic, eye-catching, and–though steeped in tradition–anything but dated. Here are a few that get it just right:

Custom couple silhouette from Etsy shop Le Papier Studio.

Can’t help it; I must continue to profess my love for West Elm’s fall collection. These silhouette prints from Mike Miller are no exception.

Charming custom portraits by Carter Kustera, available through Jonathan Adler stores. A little tidbit about the subject appears at the bottom of each print. For example, Liberace, the dog above, “refuses to poop in the rain”. Who can blame him?

Custom mugs, $65 from Etsy seller BrooklynRehab.

Strike a pose with Ferm Living’s Fashion wallpaper. Wouldn’t this be wonderful lining a dressing room?
