Scoping Affordable Art from SCUBA

Author:

Chancing upon art that you like is hard enough, but finding something you’d be happy to hang on your wall that’s also affordable? Virtually unheard of. Good, inexpensive art can be incredibly hard to come by–that is, if you don’t know where to look.

There are a few local home boutiques around San Francisco that also house tiny gallery spaces, and their ever-changing art exhibitions have become my go-to source for new-to-me artists whose work I love and, more importantly, can afford.

That’s how I came upon the art of Sandra Wang and Crockett Bodelson, the painting duo behind SCUBA. Their work is in some of my favorite design spots all over the city (Rare Device, RAG CO-OP, the Curiosity Shoppe, Fabric8)– fitting locations, as each of SCUBA’s colorful canvases begs to have a room crafted around it. Best of all, with pieces ranging from $60 to $250, original art won’t cost you an arm and a leg.
