Shop: SALE

What events not to miss this weekend, from sales to exhibitions to open houses.

The Down and Up Sale at Arkitektura
San Francisco’s Arkitektura has a couple good reasons why you should stop by their showroom and stock up on Minotti luxury upholstery, Poliform wall and closet systems and Varenna kitchens. One, they are offering 25 to 35 percent off, and two, on September 7, the three renowned brands are raising their prices across the board. “Act now!” never felt like a more appropriate statement.

Action! Sony Pictures Prop Department Auction
If the words “movie set” and “auction” get your blood boiling, you won’t want to miss this: Sony Pictures is auctioning off thousands of items from their prop closet (if you can call a 2-acre warehouse a closet), from wardrobe (!) to lighting to furnishings. The online bidding has already kicked off, but winner won’t be declared until Wednesday, September 1 at 3 a.m.

L.A.’s Lowdown on Downtown bus tour
On Saturday at 11 p.m. the bus leaves the station—or, er, the parking lot of French dip sandwich emporium Philippe’s—on a tour that reveals the secret history, and the fascinating future, of this most beguiling LA neighborhood—downtown. Hosted by art collective LAVA.

August Seconds at ACCI
ACCI Gallery in Berkeley let’s their stable of artists take over their back gallery this weekend for their August Seconds Sale—a special clearance (read: big savings) event featuring works from their studios, including glass, jewelry, ceramics and fine art. Seems like the perfect time to kick start that art collection.

Show: REAL ESTATE

Chateau Oakland
This French-style farmhouse was built in 1934. Some time appropriate remodeling has kept the Oakland home’s charm intact and it includes a formal dining room, spacious living room with fireplace, three bedrooms, two full baths and views of the Bay. Asking $700,000 and open this Sunday, 2–4 p.m.
