Picture Perfect: Inspired by NatureAuthor:John Ellis
California, especially Southern California, is all about the weather. About how we can literally open our front doors or—in the case of artist Lynn Hanson—open her studio doors, to the outdoors. As the days grow cooler, it’s important to remember how lucky we have in the grand scheme of climates.
Lynn blurs the boundaries between inside and outside when she unlatches her studio windows and doors. The wood framed windows are original to the 1920s Venice Beach cottage, and the wood and glass vintage doors were added to open up her painting studio to her lush backyard. The grass literally grows between the doors and into the studio space. From her easel, Lynn can feel the ocean breeze and be inspired by the elements. Natural creatures are welcome guests in Lynn’s garden and birds, spiders and snakes are all motifs in her paintings.
