2010 Hit List: Glass Series No. 4 Lamp by Brandon Morrison

While working as an actor, Brandon Morrison decided he would rather be a woodworker. In a similar change of heart, while working on a design for a side table, Morrison, founder of the seven-year-old furniture company WhyrHymer, ended up designing the Glass Series No. 4 lamp. “I really came up with the design by accident,” says Morrison, whose retro-futuristic aesthetic was shaped by the Googie drive-thrus and roadside motels of his adopted home of Los Angeles. With its four angled legs and three 45-watt Edison bulbs housed in a glass bubble shade, the No. 4 could feasibly contain visitors from another planet. Morrison says the popularity of the table lamp has inspired him to begin work on a floor-lamp model.
