Hearts for Haiti and other Holiday Do-Goodies

This Christmas I’m giving everyone a Hearts for Haiti rock from Amenity Home. It’s not  just a great stocking stuffer, but it’s a cute hostess gift, the perfect Valentine’s Day gift and the ultimate Thank You. So friends, be prepared to open up heart-shaped rocks all year long…

This weekend, I searched online for six hours for the perfect “gifts that give back.” (I like to holiday shop with a theme in mind—a couple years ago I bought everyone educational gifts, i.e. spanish toys for the nieces and nephews, meditation kits for the parents and reference books for my siblings… i won’t do that again.) So on Saturday, I went through all the online round-ups of gifts that donate proceeds to various non-profits and discovered some fun options.

I thought these Kauzbots ($25 each) might be good for the nieces and nephews who love collectibles like Webkinz and Silly Bandz. Each character stands for a different “kauze,” like Kalvin who cares about homelessness:

I LOVE these Giving Pillows (on sale for $20) from PB Teen, which are aligned with such orgs as the Surfrider Foundation, The Special Olympics and Boys and Girls Club:

And after a looong search, i decided against logo tees or water bottles and bought gift cards from Global Giving, which my family can then donate to one of the organization’s non-profits of their choice.

But after reading Amenity Home’s blog today, I’m adding these Hearts for Haiti ($10) to the mix, too. A portion of the proceeds from these handmade Haitian heart-shaped stones will fund the Haitian relief activities of the Hand/Eye Artisan Grant program, which reviews artisan circumstances and delivers the funds neeeded to keep artisan businesses alive.

Here’s hoping everyone likes their presents this year, and that none of my  loved ones are keeping tabs on this blog.
