Broad Art Foundation Building Unveiled
Author:Abigail StoneFrom my calculations, Eli Broad owns about half of California. True story: On my tiny college campus, we had two Broad-backed buildings, and it was insisted upon that both be named after their benefactor. Can you imagine the confusion caused by can’t-be-bothered college students needing to memorize the difference between Broad Hall and Broad Center? Ridiculous.
My point is, the Broad name is on everything. And now, you can add one more structure to the list, as plans for the new Broad Art Foundation were unveiled yesterday. Designed by New York firm Diller Scofidio + Renfro, the building will house Broad’s extensive art collection in downtown Los Angeles. The design features a sort of an undulating, concrete honeycomb encompassing all sides of the structure. The good news is it’s bound to be an iconic piece of architecture, and will hopefully help continue the revitalization of downtown. The bad news? We’re one step closer to total Broad domination.
