Be My Valentine, Rogan Gregory

On Monday, green design site Inhabitat sent valentines to their favorite designers, including local Bay Area luminaries like Yves Behar and Emily Pilloten. Their work is certainly worthy of our love, and I want to make clear that I was gaping at the objects, not the man, when I clicked on the little heart-shaped photo of Mr. Rogan Gregory.

I’ve long been a fan of Gregory’s scruffy sustainable fashion lines Loomstate, and Edun, (which he founded with Bono). There’s a timelessness to his designs, a quality he cleverly calls attention to with this faceless watch, made from old watch parts that are reassembled by hand.

Turns out the polymath produces furniture and home accessories, too, under the nom-de-design Rogan. His Mad Max-meets-Bauhaus Square Chair, inspired by Marcel Breuer’s Wassily chair of 1925, and hand blown mirrored glass lamps are objects of desire, indeed.
