Gardener’s Paradise Estate Sale

Author:

Who among us doesn’t harbor a fantasy of ditching the job commitments, the stresses of city life and the hell of traffic and moving to a tiny Northern California hamlet? Maybe you can’t realize that daydream, but you can buy a piece of it starting tomorrow at a special estate sale in the tiny town of Graton, California (pop. 1,815).

First thing to note is that this sale, staged by Susan Gardner, gets underway tomorrow and runs through Saturday—so I’m posting estate sale news a bit early this week. Here’s what we know about the event: The woman who owns this Graton cottage was reportedly in on the ground floor at the recently departed Smith & Hawken. Her collection includes loads of early goods from the garden-lifestyle purveyor as well as an amazing collection of French antiques and industrial-style wares.

Hunters will find pots of all shapes and sizes; metal tables, chairs and cabinets; French urns and pottery and yard art.

There’s also a host of leather chairs and ottomans and wooden benches (meant for both indoors and outdoors).

The weather this weekend is supposed to be divine, so it’s the perfect opportunity to drive north, do some shopping and bring home a bit of the dream.

The sale hours are 9 a.m.–3 p.m. on Friday and Saturday at 9825 Graton Road (park on nearby Sullivan Road). While you are there, check out some of the cool new stores and restaurants that have sprung up in the area in recent years.
