Winner Announced! The Best Public Park in California is…
Author:Lindsey ShookWe have just crowned the next winner in our monthly online feature: Design Democracy. Hundreds of votes were cast for the 10 California public parks nominated as the Best Public Park in California, with San Francisco’s Golden Gate Park narrowly beating out Santa Monica’s Palisades Park as the top pick.
Golden Gate Park (above) features more than 1000 acres of public grounds. The park is one of the most visited green spaces in the nation and features muliple musems, gardens, a children’s playground a more. It is also home to one of San Francisco’s best events–Outside Lands (check out all of the incredible highlights from the 2011 event)!
While Golden Gate Park took the top spot thanks to lots of love from Bay Area natives, Santa Monica’s lovely Palisades Park came in a close second place. The 25-acre beach-front park is home to a beautiful rose garden, shuffleboards and the super cool Camera Obscura.
Don’t agree with the results? Tell us in the comments which park you think should have won and don’t forget to vote in next month’s Design Democracy poll!
