Killefer Flammang-Designed Hotel Wilshire Opening Soon
Author:Marissa GluckWilshire Blvd near Fairfax is not an obvious choice for a new boutique hotel, despite its proximity to Conde Nast’s L.A. headquarters. So it’s somewhat surprising to see the sleek new Hotel Wilshire prepare for its debut next month. The 74-room hotel was designed by Santa Monica-based Killefer Flammang Architects, transforming a dull 1950’s six-story building formerly occupied by medical offices into a chic, eco-friendly space.
The hotel will also have a new rooftop terrace with a pool and private cabanas, offering a panoramic view of the city.
The hotel was developed using sustainable resources and green materials to achieve a LEED certification. The architects also created a new, luminescent façade to activate the street.
Interiors were done by KNA Design, an architectural interior design firm based in L.A. and Hong Kong, that has done a number of hotel projects in Las Vegas and elsewhere.
It looks like owners OSM Investment Company and Greystone Hotels are betting this unglamorous stretch of Wilshire Blvd could be a future hot spot. With a proposed 21-story condo tower next door and a maybe-one-day-please-God-let-it-happen subway stop at Wilshire and Fairfax, they may not be wrong. The hotel opens in September with rates starting at $189 per night.
