Finishing Touches: Holiday Decorating Tips from the Pros

Author:

This past weekend I sat down with a group of designers, event planners and floral designers and asked them to share their secrets for holiday decorating with myself and members of the Junior League Palo Alto Mid Peninsula. It was all part of the Finishing Touches Home Tour, a popular event where a handful of people open up their homes—all of them decked out in their holiday best.

The Designers Breakfast preceded the preview tours, and the tips from designers Barry Johnson of Brick Monkey, Nancy Evars of Evars + Anderson, Isabella Boyer Sikaffy of Florabella, and Tracy Hass of The Dressed Room had everyone inspired and ready to hit the house tours.

Here are some highlights from the morning:

Tracy Haas loves these feather and pine cone trees as a fun alternative to all that green and red. An added bonus bonus: no watering.

Nancy Evars says red isn’t the only festive hue for the holidays. She prefers a table done in pink.

Barry Johnson loves these silver glitter trees. “These silver lit glitter trees are my favorite thing this holiday. The romance of mercury glass is the theme this year at Brick Monkey. These trees pull it all together.”

Wreaths aren’t just for the doorway: Isabella Boyer Sikaffy hangs pine and ornaments from an entry ceiling for an unexpected touch.
