In One SF Block, 3 Stellar Home Stores
Author:Lindsey ShookEvery city has those magical blocks that, by chance, happen to house awesome store after awesome store. In San Francisco, there are plenty of these little gems. Lately, our favorite has been Valencia Street between 19th and 20th Streets.
We like to spend sunny Saturdays stumbling from one of these three home stores into the next. Check out our favorite finds and then tell us in the comments which SF block you head to for cool home finds.
Aldea Home
890 Valencia St.
This shop used to be down the street, but owner Johanna Bialkin recently moved Aldea Home into the old X-21 Space—doubling the size of showroom.
Favorite Finds (above, clockwise from left): Roost Edison Lamp, $96; Lexon Design Dolmen Tape Dispenser, $36; Chronicle Books One Sketch A Day: A Visual Journal, $16; Jonathan Adler Zig Zag Throw, $295; Black and Blum Fruit Loop Bowl, $40; Present Time Bicycle Repair Kit, $40.
The Curiosity Shoppe
855 Valencia St.
Owners Lauren Smith and Derek Fagerstrom fill their little shop with whimsical, lively finds. It’s become our go-to place for unique hostess gifts and birthday presents.
Favorite Finds (clockwise from left): Geometry Notebooks, $13 each; Brick Bookends, $24; Three Ring Paintings, $50; Mini Log S&P Shakers, $12; Rope Bottle Openers, $28; Small Wooden Radio, $210.
Paxton Gate
824 Valencia St.
Paxton Gate is far from your traditional home accessories shop. The store features taxidermy, bones, mounted insects and more. Frankly, we’ve only purchased a few things here, but whether we find something or not, we never leave disappointed.
Favorite Finds (clockwise from left): Travels Journal, $16; Edible Greens Planter, $59; Terrarium Workshop (class included), $60; Koryu Shears, $39; Spiral Wood Handle Magnifying Glass, $45; Vaugondy Globe, $32.
