Open House Report, LA Edition: 5 Places to Check Out on Sunday Afternoon, January 29th

It’s the best way to see what’s on the market without being tethered to a real estate agent- required for house hunters and a guilty pleasure for the rest of us. 1372-74 Edgecliff Drive, Silverlake, $745K: (above) Walk to Sunset Junction— four new houses (not condos.) Compact layouts with 2-car garages, 3 bedrooms and 2.5 baths, the bells and whistles include pre-wiring for electric cars. Casting a wider net, the houses are open from 11:00am to 5:00 p.m.
Main Street, Venice, #3, $1.15M: The kitchen island to end all kitchen islands, this stone-and-timber number was (according to the listing) designed by Celebrity/Iron Chef Michael Symon. The 2-level, 2-bed, 2-bath condominium also has 2-car parking, a fireplace, plus a small outdoor space— which seems to be occupied by an outdoor grill and a smoker. We want to make a joke about going up in flames, but your neighbors will either love you or hate you. Open 1:00 to 4:00 p.m.
3050 North Beachwood Canyon Drive, Beachwood Canyon, $935K: Classic modern, circa 1953, recently— and gently— redone. Check out the realtor’s dedicated site [insert link] for a look at the best new bathrooms we’ve seen in a while. With 3 bedrooms and 2 baths, the house appears to have a big studio space upfront. Open 1:00 to 4:00 p.m.
2252 Bronson Hill Drive, Hollywood Hills East, $1.199M: A romantic Spanish-Mediterranean white stucco house from 1926, the 3-bed, 2-bath house is compact enough to almost be a “condo alternative” with a small garden. Tucked into the sharp angle of a switchback, it’s the kind of quirky but beautifully-detailed classic you’d hope to find in the Hollywood Hills. Open 1:00 to 4:00 p.m.
3611 Colonial Avenue, Palms/Mar Vista, $1.885M: Walled and surrounded by lush landscaping, this 2006 house by architect Bill Tsui seems serious about good feng shui. The 3-bed, 4.5-bath house also hasn’t been reduced to minimalist stage set but actually looks comfortable for a family, and includes a 2-story guest house with a kitchen and bath.
