Why You Need to Know: Designer, modernist preservationist and collector Michael Boyd is a busy guy. Principal of BoydDesign, he’s restored residences by John Lautner, Richard Neutra and Oscar Niemeyer, curated and designed part of the exhibition “Birth of the Cool” at the Orange County Museum of Art, and had his extensive personal collection of extraordinary seating cataloged for SFMOMA’s “Sitting on the Edge: Modernist Design from the Collection of Michael and Gabrielle Boyd.” His latest project is PLANEfurniture, a collection of clean-lined chairs and tables he created that is inspired by his art and design heroes, such as Rudolph Schindler and Donald Judd.
When to See It: April 28 through June 16 at LA’s Edward Cella Art + Architecture
